Peter Berg recently finished the bulk of his work on the adaptation of the Parker Bros. board game Battleship, which has somehow transformed into an alien-invasion story for its big-screen voyage. Deadline reports he’ll next turn to a more grounded theater of war with the story of a Navy SEAL team sent to kill a ranking al Qaeda leader … but not the one you might be thinking of. The report also confirms the director will reunite with his Battleship star Taylor Kitsch for this movie.
Berg will adapt Marcus Luttrell’s autobiographical account Lone Survivor, which runs through the details of a 2005 mission in Afghanistan in which four SEALs were dispatched to take out an al Qaeda leader hiding out in a nearby Taliban stronghold. The mission was over less than 24 hours later, and only Luttrell, the team’s leader, survived. It gets even crazier, too: Over the four days that followed, the badly injured Luttrell fought off six al Qaeda assassins and eventually crawled seven miles through the mountains, back into friendly territory.

Taylor Kitsch Circling Savages
Taylor Kitsch is in contention to play one of the two leads in Oliver Stone’s Savages. We reported yesterday that Aaron Johnson is also in talks for a lead role in Savages.
The story centers on two young pot growers who run their business out of their Laguna Beach home. The plot thickens when a Mexican drug cartel kidnaps their best friend O and forces the duo to work for the cartel. Salma Hayek is also in discussions to play the head of the cartel.
We reported in February that Jennifer Lawrence was set to play O, although she recently had to drop out of the project due to her commitment to The Hunger Games. Olivia Wilde is mentioned as a possible replacement for the O role.
Oliver Stone will direct from a script by Shane Salerno and Don Winslow, who wrote the novel this project is based on. No production schedule was revealed yet.
Savages comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Jennifer Lawrence. The film is directed by Oliver Stone. (source)

Taylor Kitsch Will Sink Your Battleship
Taylor Kitsch (upcoming John Carter of Mars, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, “Friday Night Lights”) will star in Universal’s adaptation of the Hasbro game Battleship.
Peter Berg is directing the action adventure, which will unfold as a massive Naval adventure across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.
The script, by Jon and Erich Hoeber, sees an international fleet come together to battle a water-bound armada of otherworldly origin.
Heat Vision says Kitsch is playing a Naval commander named Alex Hopper, described as “wildly spirited” and “a great seaman but a lousy politician.” Other key roles in the film include the female lead as well as a Japanese commander.
The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner was previously in the running for the role but opted to do Paul Thomas Anderson’s new drama instead. (source)
